Services were 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial was in St. Claire Cemetery, Ute, Iowa. Fran Louise Barr was born March 16, 1927, in Correctionville, Iowa, to Albert "Bert" and Anna (Hinkhouse) Plato. She was raised by Ernest and Etta Shever of Correctionville. Services were 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial was in St. Claire Cemetery, Ute, Iowa. Fran Louise Barr was born March 16, 1927, in Correctionville, Iowa, to Albert "Bert" and Anna (Hinkhouse) Plato. She was raised by Ernest and Etta Shever of Correctionville. She was baptized on April 5, 1942 at Rock Branch Methodist Church in Rock Branch, Iowa. She lived in rural Correctionville and graduated from Correctionville High School. She attended Morningside College and received a teaching degree. She taught at Maple Valley School for one year and taught first grade at the Moorhead-Soldier (Iowa) School District from 1960 to 1990. She also owned and operated Fran's T-shirt business for many years at fairs and Timber Ridge. On Oct. 24, 1952, she was united in marriage to Veryl Barr in Correctionville. He died Nov. 8, 1987. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, where she served her church actively. She is survived by a son and his wife, Kirk and Vicky Barr of Mapleton; a nephew, Danny Plato; a niece, Kathy Plato of Omaha; and many good friends. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and sister-in-law, Al and Eleanor Plato.
