Dorothy, a pioneer resident of Monona county died on Friday at her home in Pierre, S. D. were she had resided for 40 years. Frances Madora Agens the youngest of twelve children of Henry C. and Mary Agens was born on Aug. 1, 1861 being the first child born in the territory now comprising St. Clair and Soldier townships, all being included in St. Clair township at that time. Her father was the first settler in what is now Soldier township, and was the first white man to locate on the Soldier river between Preparation and Ida Grove. He came in March 1858, his wife and seven children following in June of the same year. They came from St. Clair, Mich. giving the name of their old home town to the new township in which they settled. She received her education in the country schools and in Oct. 1880, she was married to Emmett F. Dorothy. Mr. Dorothy established the first post office and store at Ute in 1884 when the Milwaukee railroad was built through the town. Later he formed a partnership with his brother E. P. Dorothy, the new firm erecting a brick building and establishing a dry goods store at Ute. She moved with her family to Pierre, S. D. where Mr. Dorothy was in Business for a number of years, and she was prominent in church and social circles until prevented during the past few years by failing health. Mr. Dorothy passed away nine years ago. Those left to mourn the passing of a living mother are Mrs. Blanche Adock of Kansas City; Roy of Glendale, Calif., Mrs. Elsie Core and Mrs. Myrtle Darner of Pierre, S. D. and Vern of Seattle. Beside these there are fourteen grandchildren, one great grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Sunday in the First Baptist church in Pierre of which she had been a member for 40 years by her pastor, the Rev. Mr. Holden and services were held again at 2 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon in the Christian church at Ute, the Rev. Peter Jenson officiating. Burial was made beside her husband in the St. Clair Cemetery. Relatives and friends from away who attended the funeral at Ute were her daughters Mrs. Adcock of Kansas City and Mrs. Darner of Pierre, her son Roy Dorothy of Seattle and a granddaughter, Mrs. Ray Kellogg of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Roman Holcomb, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Vore, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Buss and Mrs. Mayme Buss all of Dow City, Mr. and Mrs. Harve Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Riddle and Mrs. W. W. Von Court all of Onawa.
