Description	:	Frances R. Fowler, 94 of Gering, died at her Gering home on Monday, June 22, 2015. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Gering with Reverend Lauren Ekdahl officiating. The casket will be closed at the church. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery. Viewing will be from 9 am to 7 pm on Thursday, June 25 at Gering Memorial Chapel. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.geringchapel.com. Frances was born October 1, 1920, to Florence and Dewey Reeder. She was married to Don Fowler and they had two children, Nancy (Hale) and Larry. Frances had an 81 year membership in the Gering First United Methodist Church, where she served as President of the Women’s Circle and on several committees. She worked many years as a political volunteer, served as a delegate to two Republican National Conventions and was the first woman to serve as the state chairman of the Nebraska Young Republicans. She was a charter member and the first President of the Gering Women’s Club. Frances received three Admiralships in the Great Navy of Nebraska from three different Governors, two Democrats and one Republican, and hosted the dignitary reception for Oregon Trail Days for over sixty years. She served as Vice President of the Old Settlers’ Association in 1995. She served as President and was a lifetime member of the Gering American Legion Auxiliary. Frances and her husband, Don, won the Golden Spade Award for outstanding gardening on two occasions. She was known for her cooking ability, excellent bridge playing and, most of all, for her generosity. Each holiday season, even when she was in her 90’s, she prepared dozens of plates of homemade candy to deliver to the “elderly” many of whom were much younger that she was. She had a highly successful career with Welcome Wagon International, which began when she worked as the hostess in Gering and culminated in her promotion to Vice President in charge of the western half of the United States. Frances was preceded in death by her husband Don, son-in-law Lyle Hansen, brother Delmer Reeder, sister-in-law Jean Reeder, sister Doratha Carter and brother-in-law Herb Carter. She is survived by her son, Larry Fowler and his wife, Judy , of Gering, her daughter, Nancy and her husband, Ron of Alpine, Wyoming, grandchildren Laura Barlowe, Jeff Hansen, Wes Fowler and Dan Fowler, eight great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren and several very close nephews and nieces
