Description	:	Frances W. Burke, 86, of Hawarden died Wednesday, June 12, at Hawarden Community Hospital. Services were at 10:30 A.M., Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hawarden with the Rev. LeRoy Seuntjens officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home of Hawarden was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Burke was born June 30, 1915, in Rock Valley, the daughter of Jay and Ursela (Johnston) Ashmore. She graduated from Hawarden High School in 1934. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home of Hawarden was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Burke was born June 30, 1915, in Rock Valley, the daughter of Jay and Ursela (Johnston) Ashmore. She graduated from Hawarden High School in 1934. She was a secretary to attorney Clayton Thompson. She married Tom E. Burke on June 6, 1936, in Rock Valley. The couple made their home in Hawarden, where she was a homemaker. She wrote letter to U.S. soldiers during World War II, remembering those who were fighting the war. Her husband died March 15, 1985. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church where she was active in the Ladies Guild. She enjoyed playing bridge and watching television. Survivors include two daughters, Judy Tourtillott and her husband Raymond of Great Falls, Virginia, and Colleen Burke of Lawton, Oklahoma; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Jay Ashmore Jr.; and a sister, Harriet Bruget. The Independent (Hawarden, Iowa) 6/20/2002
