Description	:	In Memory of Francine Faye Klahsen, age 84, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the daughter of Marcus and Clara (Martens) Billerbeck on June 18, 1934, at her family’s farm home in rural Geneseo, Iowa. Read More	In Memory of Francine Faye Klahsen, age 84, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the daughter of Marcus and Clara (Martens) Billerbeck on June 18, 1934, at her family’s farm home in rural Geneseo, Iowa. In 1941, Francine and her family moved to their farm southeast of Reinbeck, Iowa. Francine was a 1952 graduate of Reinbeck High School, where she and her twin sister Frances were members of the Reinbeck Girls’ Basketball team that won the 1952 State Iowa Girls Basketball Championship. Francine was named to the All-Tournament Team, to the First Team All-State Des Moines Register, and to the First Team All-State IDPA. In 1964, she was inducted into the Iowa Girls’ Basketball Hall of Fame. Francine graduated from the Iowa State Teachers’ College (today known as University of Northern Iowa), earning her teaching degree. She taught lower elementary grades at Marengo, Lake Mills and Dumont. On February 4, 1959, Francine was united in marriage with John Richard Klahsen at the Congregational Church in Reinbeck. Francine was a loving farmwife, mother, and homemaker. In 1981, she became an assistant librarian at the Aplington Public Library for 13 years. She was a faithful member of Washington Reformed Church in rural Ackley, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. She also served as RCYF leader with her husband. Francine and John were members of the Aplington Recreation Complex where she enjoyed golfing in the women’s league, as well as many couple’s golfing tournaments through the years around northeast Iowa. She also enjoyed the various excursions with “The 5” (five high school friends, including her twin Frances, and their husbands) and the events/trips with John and their REC friends during John’s 28 years as a director. Francine was an athlete and an avid sports fan; she could converse about any sporting event. She thoroughly enjoyed attending – along with John – all her daughters’ sports/extra-curricular activities and all her six grandchildren’s sports/extra-curricular activities. Many times Francine and John would be the first to arrive at the event “to find the best seat.” Francine loved gardening and took special pride in her flower beds, flower arrangements and the upkeep of her yard. She enjoyed bird-watching; each day she would refill the bird feeders and the birdbath. Francine made the best pecan pie, and many would request her recipe. On June 2, 2019, Francine passed away peacefully at Unity Point Health – Allen Hospice Center in Waterloo, Iowa, after a year-long courageous battle against cancer. She is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Eunice Neil, Leora Neil, Reva Billerbeck and Myrne Billerbeck; her brother, Donald Billerbeck; and a son-in-law David Roth. Francine is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, John of Aplington; two daughters - Teresa (Troy) Feldman of Greene, Iowa, and Sue (Bob Moran) of West Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren - Amanda (Chris) Kehe of Aurora, Illinois, Alisa Roth of West Des Moines, Lisa Feldman of Rochester, Minnesota, John Roth of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Austin Roth of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Jared Feldman of Greene; two great grandchildren - Kenzie Francine Kehe and Kellan Michael Kehe; twin sister Frances (Russell) Lorenzen of Clear Lake, Iowa; sister-in-law AnnRae Billerbeck of Reinbeck; brother-in-law Bill (Shirley) Klahsen of Aplington; brother-in-law, Hank Klahsen of Aplington; multiple nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, as well as many friends. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 6, 2019, at the Washington Reformed Church, with burial in the Washington Reformed Church Cemetery both in rural Ackley. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, and one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be directed to family.
