Janeaux, which occurred on Tuesday, the 20th inst., at 12:30 a.m. The deceased had been confined to his home since last October, the nature of his complaint being paralysis of the spinal cord, which affected his head and throat and finally terminated his life. Francis A. Janeaux as held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was a pioneer who helped to smooth the way for the advancing civilization and in doing so encountered many dangers and hardships. He was born near Montreal, Canada, and left home when quite a young man to seek his fortune in the United States. He arrived in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1857, where he remained for about a year, from that place he went to St. Louis, leaving that city by boat for the west in 1859. He was at one time in charge of a trading post for Duffy and Peck on Milk River, and spent a number of years on the Missouri among the Indians. He located in this point in July, 1879, coming here from the Cypress Hills on the border. He took up 160 acres of land at the present site of Lewistown. Here he built a fort and trading post, doing an extensive business with the Indians. The fort was located on the west bank of the creek, north of main street. Mr. Janeaux leaves behind a wife and two children who will receive the sympathy of the public in their bereavement. The funeral was held on Wednesday, at 1:30 p.m., and was largely attended.
