Description	:	Frank Battle Dancy, was born in Tarboro, Edgecombe Co, NC, the only surviving child of William Francis Dancy & (2nd wife) Mary Eliza Battle. His only sibling, Francis Little Dancy died in infancy in 1859. Frank's father was a wealthy attorney from a prominent and influential family in Tarboro, who first married Martha Caroline Moye in 1850, daughter of General Wyatt Moye & Martha Adams. Frank's father was a wealthy attorney from a prominent and influential family in Tarboro, who first married Martha Caroline Moye in 1850, daughter of General Wyatt Moye & Martha Adams. Martha died two years into the marriage, and in 1858 he married Mary Eliza Battle, and together they built their Greek Revival mansion on St. Andrew Street in Tarboro. Frank as the paternal grandson of Francis Little Dancy & Charlotte Sessoms; and gr-grandson of William Dancy and Agatha "Agnes" Little of Tarboro. He was the maternal grandson of Judge James Smith Battle and his 2nd wife, Sarah "Sally" Harriot Westray, of "Coolmore Plantaiton", Edgecombe Co. Frank's father died died in May 1860, 3 months before he was born, and his widowed mother raised him alone until he was 7, when his mother married 2nd to the widower, Dr. Newsome Jones Pittman, a prominent physician and planter in Tarboro. Frank graduated University of NC (UNC) class of 1881. On December 8, 1887, the 27-year old married 24-year old Elizabeth Hanrahan Grimes, daughter of the prominent and wealthy William Grimes & Elizabeth Hanrahan of Raleigh. The couple set up housekeeping in Raleigh and would have 4 known children: * Elizabeth Battle Dancy (1888-1968) * William Grimes Dancy (1889-1943) * Frank Battle Dancy II (1892-1934) * Bryan Grimes Dancy (1894-1951) Frank worked for Virginia-Carolina Chemical Company and was transferred to Norfolk, VA and later Atlanta, GA where the children received primary education; finally to Baltimore where they remained until their deaths. Frank died in Baltimore, MD, in 1922 at age 62, and his body was returned to NC for burial in Oakwood Cemetery. His wife of 35 years survived him 13 years, passing in 1935 at age 72. None of Frank's sons married, and the line died with their deaths. As for his children, Eliza married John Marshall Hills Bruce of Baltimore in 1918 and had children; William never married and served with honors during WW-I and was awarded the AEF Meritorious Service certificate for his work in the Statistical Division; Frank Jr. never married and also served in WW-I; Bryan also never married and was a Capt in the infantry during WW-I.
