Flannigan at his home near Bernard, Iowa, Monday afternoon, after a long illness which began early the past year when he was attacked by a peculiar affection of the face and jaw, which developed into a most malignant form of blood poisoning. Until about two weeks ago he had spent most of the past year in Chicago under special treatment but it seems that the most skillful physician and surgeons were unable to check the ravages of the unusual malady that had attacked this good and popular citizen, and death came rather as a relief from great suffering. F. B. Flanigan or "Ben", as he was affectionately and popularly called, was a son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Flannigan, of Washington township, Jones county, and was born on the old homestead in Temple Hill on January 27, 1877. He grew to manhood there and later took charge of the Flannigan farm near Bernard, Iowa. On February 21, 1906, he was married to Miss Ellen Lamey, who was also a native of Jones county. Three children were born to them, Howard, Catherine, and Irene. Mrs. Flanigan died in May 1913. Besides his children Mr. Flanigan is survived by his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. James Flanigan, brothers, Thomas, Dr. Joseph J. (of Chicago), and James, and sisters, Mrs. Mary Convery, Mrs. Harry McQuillen, and Mrs. Vincent Henneberry. Mr. Flanigan was a man of the most exemplary character, a consistent Catholic in religion, a dutiful son, faithful husband, and loyal friend. His death is sincerely mourned not only in the family circle but among countless friends, who were move with great concern during the long months of his illness and were deeply grieved when death called him at last from suffering. The funeral services were held at St. Patrick's church in Garryowen, Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. Mulcahy officiating. The Requiem Mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Mulcahy, pastor, assisted by Rev. P. J. Coffey, of Farley, and Rev. John Hehir of Temple Hill. Rev. P. J. Coffey preached the sermon. The reverend father had been the pastor the deceased in two parished, Temple Hill and Garryowen, in former years. The pallbears were Elmer Meloy, Walter Meloy, Louis Meloy, Mose McDonald, J. H.
