Baker was born at Benedict, Nebr. on October 5, 1893 and departed this earthly life on Sunday evening, August 12, 1962 after a year's illness. He was the son of a pioneer York county couple, Mr. and Mrs. D.W. Baker and one of twelve brothers and two sisters. Tilling the soil was his vocation and after his marriage to Luella Beach near Pleasantdale on April 6, 1927 this couple settled on a farm in the Harmony community where he continued to reside until 1948 when they moved to a farm of their own northeast of Polk. Three children came to bless this home; 2 daughters and a son. They are Charlotte, Mrs. Robert Moomey, Lincoln; Clydella, Mrs. Ralph Merklinger of South Sioux City and Dan of Memphis, Tenn. Clyde was an honest and conscientious man. Kind to all and friendly disposition. He worked hard to earn from the soil an honest living and contributed of his time and strength to those in his community who needed his service. He was baptized by Rev. M.J. Braun of Shelby and gave his heart to Christ in full surrender to the will of God. Though hopeful he might recover his health, he did not protest the plan which his Saviour had for his crowning. Besides his wife and children who cherish his memory, the following members of his family survive: four grandchildren; one sister, Pearl, Mrs. Charles Wantz of York; seven brothers, Grant of Charlottesville, Va., Ira of Enumclaw, Wash., Ray of Keenesburg, Colo., Oliver of Polk,, Earl of Saybrook, Ill,. Floyd and Wayne of Benedict. One sister, four brothers and his parents precede him in death. Thus closes the earthly life to begin the heavenly one with the redeemed. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 15 in Harmony E.U.B. Church with Rev. Chas. F. Wantz bringing the message and Mrs. Dorothy Glasser contributing 2 vocal solos, "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "Heaven is my Home". Mrs. Shirley Morris was accompanist. Pallbearers were Roy Ehn, George Folts, Wallace Fredrickson, Ray Ochsner, Joe Stewart and Ralph Willits. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery west of Benedict.
