He was born at Chickasaw on April 22, 1870 and lived for many years near Nashua. He was twice married. His first wife died in 1923. He was born at Chickasaw on April 22, 1870 and lived for many years near Nashua. He was twice married. His first wife died in 1923. Page 4 _______________________________________ * Notes and information from death certificate: Frank's parents were Abraham Cagley (b. Ind.) and Ann Rebecca Wright (b. England). His first wife was Grace Mildred (Tucker) Cagley. His second wife was Lillian. Frank lived to 61y 3m 20d. (April 22, 1870 to August 12, 1931). Frank died at 3:00 a.m. of aortic stenosis and acute pulmonary edema with pulmonary tuberculosis as a contributory factor. _________________________________________ Abraham M. Cagley was born in Indiana in 1835 and in 1854 came to Chickasaw County (Iowa) with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John (Johannes and Susannah) Cagley, who raised a family of fifteen children. John Cagley purchased several hundred acres of government land for one dollar and a quarter-dollar per acre in Bradford Township. He died on the family farm at age eighty years. John Cagley's son, Abraham married Miss Anne Wright on September 7, 1857. She was born in England in 1842 and came to the United States with her parents. Her father died soon after the family landed in this country, so the mother and children continued the journey west to Floyd and then Chickasaw Counties, where Miss Wright married Abraham Cagley. They cast in their lot with the pioneer settlers of this section of the state, and took up their abode upon a farm near the town of Chickasaw where Mrs. Cagley passed away in 1876, and then Mr. Cagley in 1880. Their family numbered seven children in addition to a child who died as an infant. Due to their young ages, the children were scattered after their parents' deaths until they could fend for themselves. None lived long lives. They had one son, James Burr Shipley in 1878. She died in 1897 at age 36. ELLEN was fifteen when her mother passed, and was probably the main female in the household to prepare food, help on the farm and provide for her younger siblings. She was not living at home when her father died four years after the mother. She never married and died at the age of 24. EMILY was only thirteen when she likely became responsible for the family tasks at the death of her mother, then seventeen when her father died. She married Elias Hilhouse Groesbeck in 1888. She died in 1890 at age 27. JOHN S. was ten when his mother passed and fourteen when his father passed, likely having helped his father with the farming. As an adult he owned and operated a farm on Section 20, Bradford Township, Chickasaw County. He took up the teaching profession in this county and in 1912 moved to Bradford Township farm. In 1889, he had married Eva May Layton. They had two daughters: Cleo, who died at age three, and Clare. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College, then married Lee Tucker on May 28, 1922. Clare died in 1924 at age 26. Mr. Cagley held numerous offices in Bradford Twp and was a county supervisor. He passed at age 54, his wife outliving him by 23 years, mostly with neither of their daughters. SARAH was eight when her mother died, likely helping in the household until she turned twelve and her father died. She married Charles A. Porter on October 11, 1887 in Floyd County, Iowa. They farmed at Burr Oak in Winneshiek County. They did not have any children. She lived 58 years. FRANK was left motherless at age six and fatherless at age ten. He married Grace Tucker (dau of Henry and Marie Bryant Tucker) January 27, 1895 in Floyd County. They had Gladys and Lloyd Robert. Frank was 61 at death. ROBERT R. was without a mother at age three, and father died when he was seven, so until age fifteen, he lived with relatives. At that age he followed farm work and schooled himself. At eighteen he began teaching until he was able to farm on his own, buying a farm of 160 acres. In 1896, he married Edna Sloat, who passed away in 1905, leaving two children, Doris and Faith. In 1907, he married Elva Groell. Robert served for a quarter of a century on the school board and held several township offices. Robert died at age 50. BABY was stillborn or died soon after birth and was buried with the mother, Anne R. (Wright) Cagley in 1876. Anne was only 34 when she died. Some Ancestry trees suggest the baby's name was John G.
