Please feel free to contact me if anything needs correcting or if you'd like additional photos or information posted or corrected. + + + + + + + + + + + + + + Francis Charles Schott was born on November 22, 1916 in Fonda, IA, the son of Charles and Anna (Stelpflug) Schott. He was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pocahontas and attended elementary schools in the Pocahontas area. On November 27, 1941 he married Marjorie Stoulil at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pocahontas. Francis was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army where he served as a cook from 1942 to 1945, seeing action in the Rhineland and Central Europe. While he was in the service he earned the American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars, an Overseas Bar, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge. After his discharge, Francis and Marge moved to Storm Lake, IA where they operated a restaurant. In 1949 they moved to Cylinder, IA where they farmed for 11 years. In 1959 they moved to Waukon where Fran managed the Bowling Alley for several years and then worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for twenty years. He also served as a court bailiff for Allamakee County for 10 years. He has been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon since 1999. Francis was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the VFW. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing shuffleboard at the Vet's Club. He also enjoyed traveling and leathercrafting. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Marge of Waukon; 4 daughters, Marjean (Jack Peyton) Fahey, DeAnn (Clarke Ford) Gentz, and Joyce (Doug) Haas, all of Waukon, and Karen (Bob) Wagner of Berryville, VA; a son, Larry "Butch" (Margaret) Schott of Columbus, GA; 14 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers, George, Arthur, Adel, Bro. Louis and Cletus; and a sister, Cecila Schall.
