Mr. Baldus, 92, died Monday, Dec. 24, at Roxanne House in Fairmont, his home the last three months. The Rev. James McCormick will preside at the Mass. Lector will be Henry Blake. Mr. Baldus, 92, died Monday, Dec. 24, at Roxanne House in Fairmont, his home the last three months. The Rev. James McCormick will preside at the Mass. Lector will be Henry Blake. Gift bearers will be Mr. Baldus' grandchildren: Dustin Baldus, Joshua Baldus, Jenna Blake, Sam Blake, Alex Blake, Theo Baldus, Kira Baldus, Nina Christianson and Rory Bork; and a great-grandchild, Addelay Christiansen. Eucharistic ministers will be Luverna Reiff and Adeline Reicks. Servers will be Robby Steffes and Johnny Steffes. Casket bearers will be John Steffes, Cletus Windschitl, Dan Balk, Bob Kraus, Don Templemeyer and Don Kanne. Maurice Dunn American Legion Post of Carroll will have an honor guard. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery at Carroll. Visitation starts at 2:30 and a rosary will be prayed at 3 Thursday afternoon at Ohde Twit Funeral Home in Carroll. A vigil will be held at 7 Thursday night at the funeral home. Visitation will resume at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the church. The family suggests memorial contributions to Kuemper Catholic Schools in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at the funeral home or church. A son of Carl Louis and Mary Alice (Garland) Baldus, he was born Oct. 28, 1915, at Story City, graduated from high school there and earned bachelor degree and master's degrees in vocational agriculture from Iowa State University. Mr. Baldus enlisted in the Navy and from 1942 to 1946 served as a lieutenant on the USS Windsor, which was involved in the invasion of islands in the South Pacific. He and Mary Ruth Olson were married June 22, 1948, at Story City. Mr. Baldus was a vocational agriculture teacher and taught in Riceville for 2 1/2 years, Sibley for 17 years and Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll for 16 years until retiring in 1981. He was commissioned a Eucharistic minister by Bishop Frank Greteman in 1970. He served frequently at daily Mass until his health failed. He was past president of the Iowa State Vocational Agriculture Teacher Association and led a Future Farmers of America program that won many first place awards. He received awards for cattle judging at the Waterloo Dairy Cattle Congress and Iowa State Fair. Mr. Baldus was also involved with soil conservation and coached in Carroll Little League for many years. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and Men's Club, Iowa State Alumni Association and the Carroll American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts. He enjoyed football and basketball at Kuemper Catholic High School, Iowa State and Norte Dame. He also enjoyed flowers, vegetables, golfing and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth, of Fairmont; a daughter, Mary Blake, and her husband, Henry, of Minnetonka, Minn.; six sons and their wives: Don Baldus of Rochester, Minn., Jim Baldus and Amy Dougherty of Mound, Minn., David and Remedios Baldus of Ames, Phil and Lynn Baldus of St. Ansgar, Jeff Baldus of Sioux City and Paul and Debra Baldus of Fairmont; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Joseph Baldus, and his wife, Joanne, of Story City; a sister, Mary Baldus Hadaway, of Morris, Illinois, a brother-in-law, John Olson, of Littleton, Colo.; and four sisters-in-law: Marie Baldus of Ames, Sue Starshak and husband Marty of Chicago, Illinois, Elaine Olson of Provo, Okla., and Norma Olson of DeSoto, Wis. Mr. Baldus was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers, two sisters and a daughter-in-law, Carol Kilcullen.
