Description	:	Francis Charles McMahon Jr. was born to Francis Charles McMahon August 10, 1927, at Fairmont. He passed away on Oct. 16, 1995, at the St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kan., at the age of 68 years, 2 months and 6 days. He was the only child in the family. Read More	Francis Charles McMahon Jr. was born to Francis Charles McMahon August 10, 1927, at Fairmont. He passed away on Oct. 16, 1995, at the St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kan., at the age of 68 years, 2 months and 6 days. He was the only child in the family. Francis was born and raised in the Fairmont community and attended Fairmont Public Schools. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Sea-Bee's in the South Pacific Theater of Operations. Upon his discharge to civilian life, he returned to Fairmont. He was married to Mabel Atwood of Fairmont on May 28, 1847, and they moved to Geneva where they lived until 1959. Seven children came to bless this marriage. Mac, as he was known to family and friends, worked for Nichols Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator. Later he was self-employed in a digging service for several years. He then took employment with the Huston Truck Lines and continued to drive during the winter months. During the summer construction season, he was employed by Webb Construction Company of Geneva. He later moved to Manhattan, Kansas. Mac was a life member of the Lt. Forbes American Legion Post No. 21 in Fairmont and served as Post Commander, Senior Vice and Department Commander in 1976. He also was a life member of the Samuel J. Marsh V.F.W. Post No. 7102 in Geneva and the 8 & 40, and the Masonic Lodge. Mac will forever be remembered by his family and friends for his exuberance for life and his wonderful sense of humor. This sense of humor remained with him to the very end. He was preceded in death by his father, Francis C. McMahon Sr. He is survived by his mother, Mae McMahon of Fairmont; fiancee Bonnie Stephens of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter Franci Bondegard of Green River, Wyo., son, Mike McMahon of San Diego, Cal.; daughters, Colleen McMahon of Eaton, Col. Maureen Hop of Greeley, Col, Kelly Gerken of York, Shannon Monson of Greeley, Col., Erin Hall of Portland, Tenn.; 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three step-sisters, Jean Baker and Esther Jewell of Lincoln and Leone Cox of Gothenburg. Memorial services were conducted from the Fairmont American Legion Building at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct 20. The Fairmont American Legion Post No. 21 was in charge of services with Commander Hunt and Chaplain O'Brien speaking on behalf of the legion. Honorary bearers were Francis Jacobsen, Chuck Edwards, Bob Delaney, Holly Jewell, Virgil Jergens and Pat Sullivan. Military honors were presented by Post No. 21 with flag presentation and salute at the conclusion of services. ----------------------- Married Mabel Atwood.
