Francis Eugene Fier was born June 24, 1931 in Charlotte, Iowa, the son of Francis J. and Inga J. (Christiansen) Fier. He served his country in the Army during the Korean Era. "Buddy" Fier, 72, Charlotte, Iowa, died Sunday evening, February 15, 2004 at Iowa Veteran's Home, Marshalltwon, Iowa. Francis Eugene Fier was born June 24, 1931 in Charlotte, Iowa, the son of Francis J. and Inga J. (Christiansen) Fier. He served his country in the Army during the Korean Era. He drove truck for much of his life with Owl Products in California and Prairie Concrete Products in Suburban Chicago and was a retired member of the Teamsters Union. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Charlotte, as well as the VFW, American Legion, and AMVETS. He enjoyed woodworking, crafts and gardening. Surviving are three daughters, 1. Frances Jean (Ron) Eades, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; 2. Candace (Mike) Schnurr, Hastings, Michigan; 3. Shannon, California; two grandchildren, Lindsay and Corey; a brother, Philip Fier, Huntley, Illinois; a sister, Margaret (George)Seifert, Branson, Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Dale and Jim; an infant sister, Andrea and a sister, Gloria Lichner. Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2004. Parish Vigial Service 7 p.m. Funeral Liturgy 11 a.m. Thursday, February 19, 2004 at Assumption Catholic Church, Charlotte. The Rev. Father Gary Beckman officiating. Interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Sugar Creek, Iowa. Pallbearers will be Kurt Fier, Greg Fier, Ed Lichner, Beth Giesler, Bridget Lipske, Shawn Fier, Tom Fier and Ryan Fier.
