Read More	Obituary From "Ottumwa Post," March 23, 2018: OTTUMWA-Francis Eugene “Frank” Orman, 97, of Ottumwa, died at 6:50 p.m. March 22, 2018 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. He was born November 24, 1920 in Lockridge, IA to John Joseph and Lola Belle Erikson Orman. He married Phyllis McCurdy on December 6, 1945 and she preceded him in death on October 10, 2012. He was a 1939 graduate of Ottumwa High School. Frank enlisted in the US Navy on October 4, 1939. He initially served on the USS Honolulu, being on board during the 1941 Pearl Harbor attack. He also served aboard the USS Iowa and USS Wisconsin. After leaving the Navy Frank worked in the Wapello county surveying department before joining the Ottumwa Fire Department in 1952. In his 25 year career with the Department he served at all three stations in Ottumwa and retired at the rank of Captain. He has been an avid and very successful fisherman his entire life, having had the opportunity to fish throughout the Midwest and Florida. He was a member of Willard St. United Methodist Church, O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion, a life member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and a life member of Disabled American Veterans. Surviving is his son, Dr. Bruce (Laura Beckwith) Orman of Ankeny; 2 sisters, Connie (Bob) Baker of Ottumwa and Jan (Mac) Klemp of Tampa, FL; a sister-in-law, Frances Brown of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Orman. His body has been cremated. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Leila Disburg officiating. Honors will be performed by the Ottumwa Fire Department Honor Guard. Inurnment will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
