Description	:	Aberdeen - Francis Grover "Bud" Tonner, 92, of Aberdeen passed away Saturday, August 13, 2005, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2005, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Aberdeen. Father James Zimmer will be officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Aberdeen. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. There will be a liturgical wake service 6:00 pm Monday, August 15, 2005, followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary at the mortuary. (Holtzman) Tonner at Bowdle, SD. Bud lived his entire life in Aberdeen. He attended Sacred Heart Parochial School and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School. Bud participated in all sports but especially excelled at football. Bud was offered a college football scholarship but instead he choose to follow his dream that someday he wanted to own his own grocery business. He started with a small meat market and later he owned two grocery stores across the street from each other on Main Street. He purchased Tonner's Red & White Grocery. Finally his real dream came true when he built one of South Dakota's first Super Markets named Piggly Wiggly on North Main Street. Bud was very active in the Aberdeen Community all of his life. He was a member and past president of many clubs including Rotary International, Elks, Moose, Eagles, Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce, Salvation Army, CASA, Red Cross, Knights of Columbus, Chairman of Brown County Fair, King of the Gyps Northern University, "Frosty" Snow Queen Festival, Paul Harris "Fellow", in Rotary, he was selected Ambassador for the State of South Dakota as well as an Ambassador of Aberdeen. Bud was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and served on many church committees and church fund drives. Bud married Mary Gail Hubbard July 25, 1935. Three children were born of this marriage. Mary Gay Glaser, Marsha Dunn and Thomas Tonner. Gail passed away July 12, 1976. Bud married Wilda Arbogast June 27, 1980. Bud's step children from this marriage were Doyle Arbogast, Galen Arbogast and Carolyn Smith. Bud was always friendly and made friends wherever he went. He was a world traveler and loved life. Bud will always be remembered for his willingness to help others throughout his life. Grateful for having shared Bud's life are his wife, Wilda of Aberdeen, three children, Mary Gay Glaser of Burnsville, MN, Marsha (Bob) Dunn of Wausa, WI and Thomas (Sue) Tonner of Aberdeen. His step children, Doyle (Donna) Arbogast of Omaha, NE, Galen (Pam) Arbogast of Lawrence, NE and Carolyn (Russ) Smith of Bismarck, ND, thirteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Gail, two sisters, Delores Oliver and Dorothy Dziki, and one brother Gene Tonner. Pallbearers will be James Olson, Mark Caven, Jack May, Larry Braun, Dr. Harvey Hart, Bill Schott, H.I. King and Tom Tobin. Honorary pallbearers are all those people who feel honored to have had Bud in their lives. Ushers will be Lowell Nall, Tom Teigen and Don Gross.
