He married Mabel (Dechant) on Sept. 3, 1955, in Hays. He was a farmer and carpenter for more than 40 years in the Ellis county area and retired in 1996. He was born Dec. 5, 1929, in Hays to John M. and Catherine (Scheck) Riedel. He married Mabel (Dechant) on Sept. 3, 1955, in Hays. He was a farmer and carpenter for more than 40 years in the Ellis county area and retired in 1996. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Victoria Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1751 and St. Ann Catholic Church, Walker. He was a past church committee member, a past cemetery board member and was tour guide for St. Ann Catholic Church. He was an avid coin collector and enjoyed his family and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Glen Riedel and wife, Tammy, Salina, and Terry Riedel and wife, Gina, Walker; two daughters, Donna Burgess and husband, Craig, and Tammy Jacobs and husband, Donovan, all of Hays; three sisters, Josie Braun and husband, John, Victoria, Katy Windholz, Quinter, and Aggie Leiker, Hays; two sisters-in-law, Zita Riedel, Florida, and Marilyn Riedel, Overland Park; nine grandchildren, Kyle Riedel (Renee), Travis Riedel (Annie), Nathan Burgess (Kelsey), Jordan Burgess, Parker Riedel, Layton Riedel, Kinsey Riedel, Jarret Riedel, and Connor Jacobs; and six great grandchildren, Maggie, Roxy and Mason Riedel; Kinley and Kyron Burgess; and Cambri Burgess. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Herbert, Alvin, Marcellus and John Riedel; an infant brother, Alvin Ray Riedel; four sisters, Amanda Riedel, Evelyn Riedel, Maggie Baumstimler-Johnston and Marie Leiker. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Ann Catholic Church, Walker; burial in St. Ann Cemetery, Walker, with military honors by the Victoria V.F.W. Post No. 1751. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, both at the church. A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, a vigil at 7 p.m., followed by a Victoria V.F.W. rosary at 7:30 p.m., all at the church.
