Description	:	Francis L. Smith, 96, of Mount Pleasant, at the Great River Medical Center Klein Unit. Born in Trenton, he was the son of Harlan and Clara Egli Smith. On Jan. 14, 1932, he married Geraldine L. Ross in Mount Pleasant. She preceded him in death on Feb. 28, 2006. He originally worked at the Iowa Ordnance Plant until 1941. He then began a long career as a contractor, forming the Francis L. Smith Construction company. He built numerous buildings in the area, as well as many houses. Born in Trenton, he was the son of Harlan and Clara Egli Smith. On Jan. 14, 1932, he married Geraldine L. Ross in Mount Pleasant. She preceded him in death on Feb. 28, 2006. He originally worked at the Iowa Ordnance Plant until 1941. He then began a long career as a contractor, forming the Francis L. Smith Construction company. He built numerous buildings in the area, as well as many houses. He farmed and raised registered Angus cattle. He retired in 1979 from construction, but continued farming as long as his health allowed. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant and Gideons International. He was an active member of Farm Bureau and various cattleman organizations. He was a Republican. Survivors include three granddaughters, Christa Martin of Marion, Terri Walker of Washington, Iowa, and Robin Smith of Mount Pleasant; seven great–grandchildren; and one sister, Mildred Kirk, of Winfield. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services was held at the Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Crawford officiating.
