Description	:	Francis Lee De Jong was born on September 27, 1932, to William A. and Bertha (Groenendyk) De Jong. He was born on the farm four miles southeast of Leighton, Iowa. Fran went to the Leighton Christian School and then to Pella Christian High School in Pella, Iowa. Fran was drafted into the United States Army in 1952, then shipped to Okinawa and was part of the 29th Infantry for 18 months. Read More	Francis Lee De Jong was born on September 27, 1932, to William A. and Bertha (Groenendyk) De Jong. He was born on the farm four miles southeast of Leighton, Iowa. Fran went to the Leighton Christian School and then to Pella Christian High School in Pella, Iowa. Fran was drafted into the United States Army in 1952, then shipped to Okinawa and was part of the 29th Infantry for 18 months. He came home in November of 1954 and married Cleora Helen Van Kooten on December 3, 1954. Cleora went to be with the Lord on January 4, 2019. To this marriage four children were born: Karen Lynn, Randal Lee, Belinda Joy, and James Alan De Jong. They were eventually blessed with 14 grandchildren and 26 great- grandchildren. Fran spent many years in the Leighton Christian Reformed Church in Leighton where he had served as an Elder, Deacon and Sunday School teacher and was one of the oldest living members of the church as the time of his death on November 15, 2020, at the age of 88 years. He served as a board member for the Oskaloosa Christian Grade School in Oskaloosa, Iowa and was a member of the Farm Bureau and Farm Service organizations. Fran enjoyed going to the Iowa State Fair camping in the same spot for 33 years as well as camping in Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. He enjoyed the family winter weekends he would spend at a hotel with his family as they swam and played games. He enjoyed tractor rides with WHO and the local group Red Rock Threshers. Playing cards and telling stories with his Van Kooten- in-laws was always a highlight. He was always available to start up a conversation with his neighbors. Fran farmed 40 years and worked for 20 years for the City of Pella where he then retired. His love of cattle started when he was young and stayed with him through all these years. His family: [omission] Those family members that are surviving are his sister Edith Pope of Pella and the following sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Lois (Van Kooten) Klyn, Janice (Van Kooten) Wielard of Pella, Dwayne Van Kooten of Denver, Colorado, Roger and Eileen Van Kooten, Gloria (Harvey) Van Kooten of Pella, Joyce (Gary) Van Kooten of Leighton, Ruth(Ronald) Van Kooten of Denver, Wesley and Junella Van Kooten of Leighton. Those family members who have gone before him are his loving wife Cleora, his son Randy De Jong, and a granddaughter, Stacy De Jong; his parents, William and Bertha De Jong, his brother, Alvin De Jong and his wife, Arlene of Chicago, IL., his sister, Elsie (Dwayne) Van Kooten of Denver, his brother-in-law, Carroll Pope; parents-in-law, Gerrit and Durky (Lanser) Van Kooten; and the following brothers-in-law: Ralph Hoksbergen, Ray Klyn, Kenneth Wielard, Harvey Van Kooten, Gary Van Kooten, and Ronald Van Kooten.
