Members of the sophomore class went to Akron Tuesday afternoon to attend funeral services as a group at the Baptist church. Burial was in Riverside cemetery at Akron. Rev. Robert Schesvold officiated. Francis was said by Hawarden high school teachers to be a brilliant student, especially in science. The office of Sheriff Ed Ekren of Union county at Elk Point reported that the youth and a brother, Daniel, 12, were bicycling on a state road when the accident occurred. According to the accident report, the trucker, Norman S. Abraham, 47, of Spink, SD who was traveling in the same direction as the Shedd youth, slowed as he neared the cyclists. The bicycle operated by Francis Shedd veered in a U-turn as the truck approached. The injured youth was taken to the Akron hospital by ambulance. Death was attributed to head injuries. Francis was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Shedd, farmers in the Akron area. He was born November 26, 1942 at Akron. Survivors besides the parents and brother Daniel, include a twin brother, Richard; two sisters, Lynn and Roxanne; the paternal grandfather, Lee Shedd of Elk Point, and maternal grandparents, Mr and Mrs Frank Bryson of Hawarden.
