Mass of Christian burial for Francis Cannon was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 16, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The church pastor, Rev. Karl Holtkamp, officiated. Casket-Bearers were Trelys Mitchell, Monte Wenger, Blair Mitchell, Tony DeCoster, Steve Healey, and Duane Purdum. Military Rites were conducted by members of Francis Gallagher American Legion Post #294. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery. There was a Rosary Service at 7 p.m., Sept. 15, in the Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Francis Leonard Cannon, son of Daniel and Ellen Murphy Cannon, was born July 28, 1918, in Victor. Francis received his education in Victor in St. John's School where he graduated from high school. He served with the U.S. Army Nov. 13, 1942, to Nov. 8, 1945. Cannon worked on construction on the Mississippi and in Tennessee. He worked for Y & M in Brooklyn as a plumber from 1948 to 1960. He then moved to Atlantic where he lived until 1972 when he returned to Brooklyn. Francis owned and operated C & R Plumbing and Heating in Brooklyn until 1981 when he retired. He was united in marriage to Marjorie E. Ryan April 25, 1946, in Belle Plaine. Cannon was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Francis Gallagher American Legion Post #294, and the VFW. He helped organize the Little League program in Brooklyn. Surviving are his wife, Marjorie; four sons, Joseph and his wife, Patricia, of Carlsbad, Calif., James and his wife, Donna, of Sioux Falls, S.D., John of Brooklyn, and Thomas of Marion; three daughters, Mary and her husband, Mike Cataldo of Marion, Rita Lamb of Center Point, and Teresa and her husband, Philip Kriegel of Brooklyn; 17 grandchildren. Francis was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Manus.
