Bunce, 79, who died at 8:10 a.m. Thursday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lem Hovey in Calamus, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Kelley funeral home, Grand Mound, and at 2 p.m. in the Calamus Methodist church. The Rev. Harold Hewitt will officiate at the rites. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Calamus. Bunce was born March 2, 1864 in Grand Mound, the son of Francis and Katherine Bunce. When he was four years old he moved with his parents to a farm two miles west of Calamus. When he was 17 years old he went to work on the railroad and was employed there for 34 years until failing eyesight caused his retirement. He joined the I.O.O.F. in 1903 and has been a member of the lodge since that time. He was married June 4, 1894 to Rosa Elizabeth Gooddell of Calamus, who died in January, 1920. Others who preceded him in death besides his wife were three daughters, one son, two brothers's, one sister, and his parents. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs Lem Hovey, Calamus, Mrs. Herman Rathman, Grand Mound and Mrs. A Neilsen, Beloit, Wis.; four sons Owen of DeWitt, Clyde in the army in Africa; Daniel in the army in Australia and Melvin in Texas; 32 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
