He was one of the oldest settlers in the county and the oldest member of the G.A.R. post in Ogden. The deceased was born in Greene county, Kentucky, January 8, 1824. In 1856 he removed to Boone county and made this his home ever since. In 1862 he entered the army as a private in Company D. Thirty second Iowa Infantry. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant and later was severely wounded at Pleasant Hill, Louisiana, and taken a prisoner by the confederates. Later he made his escape and re-entered the union lines and was taken to the union hospital. He was discharged on November 24, 1864, on account of his wounds. During his residence in this county he served as trustee and justice of the peace and in various ways made himself a prominent and useful member of the community. He was married three times and leaves two daughters. The funeral was held on Tuesday morning at 10:00 o’clock from his late residence, Rev. A.B.
