Born Nov. 19, 1933 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Sidney and Evelyn Mae (Deal) Simpson. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Elizabeth Simpson Sowers. Buddy attended Fort Hill High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Buddy retired with 35-1/2 years service at Liller Brothers Asphalt Company. "Buddy" "Sonny" Simpson, 78, of Cresaptown, died Thursday, March 8, 2012 at his home. Born Nov. 19, 1933 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Sidney and Evelyn Mae (Deal) Simpson. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Elizabeth Simpson Sowers. Buddy attended Fort Hill High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Buddy retired with 35-1/2 years service at Liller Brothers Asphalt Company. He had been a paver operator. Mr. Simpson was a member of the Laborers International Union of America, Local 616. He belonged to the Friends in Jesus Evangelistic Church, Cresaptown. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Dorothy "Dottie" (Lease) Simpson; his precious daughter, Lorie Mae Simpson, at home; two brothers, Arthur S. Simpson and wife Katie, Cresaptown, and James A. Simpson, and wife Noreen, Loganton, Pa.; two nephews and three nieces; and his special companion, Daisy Mae. Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor Bartholomew Frankenberry, officiating. Interment will be in the Lease Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be William Shook, Lee Sullivan, Butch Sullivan, Eric Lowdermilk, Richard Simpson, and Howard Brode Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Burgess, Benjamin Frankenberry, Michael Lohin. To honor Buddy, expressions of sympathy make take the form of donations to the Friends in Jesus Evangelistic Church, P.O. Box 5121, Cresaptown, MD 21505-5121. A special thank you to Dr. Moen, WMHS Hospice Staff, and Dr. Watkins for the kind, compassionate care provided to Buddy, as well as to Pastor Frankenberry and church family for their love and support. In memory of Buddy and in honor of Dottie and Lorie, a special service will be held at Friends in Jesus Evangelistic Church, Cresaptown, on Sunday at 7 p.m. Condolences to the family may be posted after Mr. Simpson's obituary at www.upchurchfh.com.
