PETERSEN Francis William "Bill" Petersen was born Sept. 18, 1926 in Atalissa, Iowa to Harvey H. and Florence Amelia Everett Petersen. Bill passed away July 28, 2003 at his home in rural Russell of a massive heart attack at the age of 76 years. Bill married Dora Lee Smith June 30, 1946 in West Liberty, Iowa. They were blessed with three daughters, Jan, Pat and Sally. Bill was a farmer and had many interests including being a horse trainer and judge of horse shows, raising coyote hunting dogs, the outdoors and he took a lot of pride in his garden. Bill and Dora Lee currently lived in the Russell area and have lived in southern Iowa for 18 years, moving from Atalissa. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Maxine Hoffman. He is survived by his wife Dora Lee; his daughters: Jan Carter and husband Bud of Ottumwa, Pat Kennedy of Muscatine, and Sally McMurry and husband Mike of Promise City; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister Joyce Kaufmann and husband Fred of Moscow, Iowa. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 31, 2003 at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton with the Rev. Dale Shadonix officiating. Pallbearers were Randy Regennitter, Rick Regennitter, Clint Irving, Mike Shiew, Nate Luke, Jay Kennedy and Darren Beavers. Interment was in the Confidence Cemetery.
