He was the eldest son of Daniel and Myrtle (Wheatley) Ellis. He was born on the Ellis homestead in Sedgwick County. The family lived on several different farms during his early childhood. He was the eldest son of Daniel and Myrtle (Wheatley) Ellis. He was born on the Ellis homestead in Sedgwick County. The family lived on several different farms during his early childhood. At age 8 his family moved to Arapahoe. He lived there until he returned with his brother to Holyoke in 1932. Francis began school in a rural school four miles north of Holyoke. He continued his education after his family moved to Arapahoe. Francis married Ethel Struempler on October 18, 1939 in Grant, Nebraska. To this union two sons, Edward and Willard were born. They first lived in Red Lion, Colorado where he worked for a ranching operation. In 1941 they moved to North Platte, Nebraska and later that year to Julesburg, where Francis worked in the beet factory in Ovid for one campaign and then was involved with a farm operation. In 1944 they moved east of Holyoke where Francis continued to farm. In 1948 they moved southeast of Holyoke. In 1960 Francis quit farming and moved into Holyoke. While in Holyoke he worked for the Co-op, but was forced to quit because of a back injury in 1963. In 1965 he went to work as a mechanic for Clarence Taylor in the Nash Garage. In 1969 he took over operation of the Mobile Oil Station in Holyoke and operated it until his retirement in 1972. Following his retirement, Francis remained busy working part time for Zion Lutheran Church as custodian and helped on the Clyde Einspahr farm with spring work and with harvest in the summer and fall. Francis joined the Lutheran Church when he was baptized and confirmed by Rev. Roy Schulz of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Julesburg, on June 20, 1943. He remained active in the church and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-mother, Katharine Eagen; one sister Helen Viola Ellis. He is survived by his wife Ethel of Holyoke; two sons, Edward of Denver, and Willard of Holyoke; three brothers, Willard Raymond of Holyoke, Donivan of Ness City, Kansas and Robert of Ness City, Kansas; three sisters, Ferne Josh of Houston, Texas, Donna Verle Mickelson of Ellis, Kansas, and Karen Weber of Victoria, Kansas; two grandchildren, Troy and Damon of Holyoke; and a host of other relatives and friends. Services were held on December 17, 1982 at Zion Lutheran Church, Holyoke. Rev. Gary A. Rahe conducted the services. Interment was in Holyoke Memorial Park. Thompson Mortuary of Holyoke was in charge of the arrangements.
