(Maciel) Vagos of Gloucester, died on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Ilhavo, Portugal on Oct. 2, 1917, son of the late Manuel S. and Felicidade (Ferreira) Vagos. Frank attended schools in Portugal and came to America when he was 16-years-old. He later entered the United States Army, having served in World War II. After being discharged in 1945, he found himself fishing out of New Bedford aboard the "Julia Da Cruz." He also fished for a short time out of Brownsville, Texas and Gloucester. He continued his education and later worked for Gloucester Engineering as a machinist for several years. He was a member of the DAV, Gloucester Chapter #74 and former member of the D.E.S. Club. Frank will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary G. Vagos of Gloucester; three sons, Michael Vagos of Tewksbury, Frank Vagos and his wife Beverly and David Vagos and his wife Janice all of Beverly; five grandchildren, Kristen Galbreath and her husband Scott, Jeremy Vagos, Andrew Vagos all of Beverly, Alicia Resnick and her husband John of Winchester and Jennifer Vagos of Beverly; two great-grandchildren, Grace Galbreath and Kylie Resnick; nieces and nephews, Candida Marshall of Gloucester, Julio Vagos of New Hampshire, Edith Martins and Danny Vagos both of New Bedford, Dorothy Sheaves of Gloucester and Marcalo Vagos of Derry, N.H. and several cousins. He was predeceased by three brothers, Marcalo, Manuel and Mario Vagos; his mother and father-in-law, Lucilla Goulart Maciel and Americo Maciel and his brother-in-law, Manuel Goulart Maciel. ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, Gloucester on Friday, March 13, at 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. A visitation will precede the Mass on Friday in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester from 8 to 9 a.m.
