Frank A. Pike, Jr., was born to Frank A and Hattie Mills Pike at Nichols, Iowa, February 14th, 1892, where he attended school and grew to manhood. September 1st, 1916, he moved to Aurora, engaging in the hardware business with his father and conducting the same until he answered the call and went to Camp Funston June 27th. On June 23rd, 1917, he was united in marriage to Miss Mabel Buckley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Buckley, who, with his parents and one brother, survive him and mourn his passing away. His death occurred "Somewhere in France" on October 7th, from pneumonia, contracted while doing his duty in the trenches. That he was universally esteemed in his home town, was very evident by the sorrow that pervaded Aurora after the news of his death. He was a clean, upstanding young man of sterling qualities, having friends by the score and not an enemy to his name. Though not so well known in Brookings, his passing on while doing the duty demanded of all of our able bodied citizens, endears his memory to service flag will always be remembered with gratitude for the willing way in which he paid the supreme price for the salvation of the world.
