Interment followed at the Bainbridge Cemetery in rural Harlan County, Nebraska with Military Honors provided by the Faye Cady American Legion Post #118 of Alma in conjunction with the United States Air Force Military Honors Team. Frank Clarence “Pete” Schluntz, 95 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, formerly of rural Huntley, passed away on Monday, November 16, 2015 at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege. Pete was born March 22, 1920, on the family farm in Harlan County, Nebraska, 1 ½ miles east of Huntley, the youngest of eight children born to Christian H. and Katie (Hoesch) Schluntz. He received his education and graduated from Huntley High School. Pete was inducted into the United States Air Force on October 6, 1942 with the 70th Troop Carrier Squadron. He was stationed in the Philippines and worked as a runway ambulance driver. He receive multiple decorations. He was honorably discharged on November 11, 1945. On May 24, 1946 Pete was united in marriage to Katie Margaret Rohnke in Phillipsburg, Kansas. To this union three children were born: Daniel, Thomas and Karen. The family made their home north Huntley where Pete raised cattle and farmed. Pete enjoyed playing cards, especially, Pitch and Poker, hunting pheasants and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel Schluntz in 1985; wife, Katie in 1997; and son-in-law, Lloyd Mintzmyer; his siblings, John, Jude, Rose, Daisy, Elsie, Anna and Lena and their spouses. Pete leaves to celebrate his life: a son, Tom Schluntz of rural Alma; a daughter, Karen Mintzmyer of Victoria, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Diane Espenhover and her husband, Lonnie of Orleans, Nebraska; eight grandchildren: Chris Schluntz and his wife, Melissa of rural Huntley, Anna Liljehorn and her husband, Mike of Elm Creek, Nebraska , Nina Mizner and her husband, Aaron of Tampa, Florida, Tracy Mintzmyer, Jody Mintzmyer and Katie Mintzmyer of Victoria, Allen Schluntz of Orleans, Eric Schluntz of South America; many great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Adaline Frerichs of Gurley, Nebraska, brother-in-law, Richard Rohnke and his wife, Almetta of rural Holdrege, Nebraska; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
