Thanks to Find A Grave contributor Julie Grabill Rasmussen for sending the obit below: Frank Dorr was born at Prim, Prussia, 22 August 1822. There he lived for 35 years. He served the mandatory time of enlistment in the army. When he was released, he married Eva Halter. To them seven children were born, only 3 survive: Mrs. Kate Emerson of Sioux City; Miss Anna Dorr, who has remained at home to help her parents; and John H. Dorr of Sioux City. Mr. Dorr was an expert boot and shoe maker. In 1850, he emigrated to the USA and settled in Chicago where he worked as a foreman in a large shoe factory. From there, he moved to Grand Haven, Wisconsin. When the US Civil War broke out, he enlisted with the Union. After his discharge, he returned home and returned to his trade. In 1875, he moved to Iowa, settling in the town of Exira, Audubon County. He resided here and continued his trade of shoe-making and repairs until his death. He died at his home on North Park Street at 11:00o'clock in the evening after a lingering illness.
