A large concourse of friends gathered to pay their last respects to a revered and honored neighbor and one who had been an outstanding figure in his community. Frank Fremont Babcock was born in New York state February 9, 1858, and there spent his earlier life, coming to North Dakota in the spring of 1882 residing for a time near Larimore. He came to Ransom County about 40 years ago first farming in Springer township north of Englevale and later moving to the farm southwest of Elliott which was his home until the time of his death. On January 28, 1889, Mr. Babcock was united in marriage to Fannie Welch at But Oak, Iowa, and to this union were born eight children, Percy, who died in infancy, Maitland, Merle, Marjorie, Claude, Charles, Glenn and Gladys, who with the sorrowing wife survive him. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Mary Bowerman of Oakes. One sister preceded him in death. Mr. Babcock always took a prominent part in the affairs of his township, county, and state. He was a member of the board of county commissioners from 1908 to 1920 and for a number of years served as chairman of the board. Following his service he represented Ransom County for one term as senator and he held the position of assessor in Eliot township for 12 years. He was a man of excellent qualities and honored and respected by all who knew him. His loss will be deeply felt not alone by those nearest and dearest to him but by the entire community.--- Ransom Co. Gazette Record
