The 250 year old business then was the oldest continuous family business in the country. He was also engaged in cranberry growing. He served as a selectman from 1928 to 1934 and was on the School Committee from 1947 to 1959. He also served as a member of the Finance Committee. He was a parishioner of the First Congregational Church, North Carver. A lifelong Republican, he served at various times as chairman and treasurer of the Town Republican Committee. He was a long time member and former president of the Carver Old Home Day Association. Among his many charitable interest for which he served as fundraiser were the Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, St. Luke's Hospital, Middleboro Boy Scouts, YMCA, Heart Fund, Cancer Fund and Infantile Paralysis. He also Contributed to local sports organizations. Survivors, beside his widow, Mrs. Florence J. (Shaw) Cole, are a daughter, Helen J. of Washington; three sons, Theron M. of Holden and Springfield, Ohio, Bradford H. and Lawrence S., both of Carver, and six grandchildren.
