Read More	Frank Henry Haviland King, 86, died on December 22, 2012 in Roswell, New Mexico where he had retired. Frank was born in England on January 11, 1926 to Frank H. and Olga King. His father was born in Missouri. Olga was raised in Cornwall, England. Frank married his wife, Catherine Elinor Barber, at the Lutheran Church in Abilene in 1954. Catherine, born in Abilene, was the daughter of the late Ward and Esther Barber. Stationed for a time at Fort Riley, Frank worked as a press and liaison officer for the Army in China during World War II. Frank was a Professor of Economic History. He received a B.A. degree from Stanford University and a D.Phil. from Oxford University in England. He worked for the World Bank in Washington D.C., then became a Professor of Economics at the University of Kansas. In 1969 he moved to Hong Kong as the first Director of the Centre of Asian Studies in the University of Hong Kong, and lived there for 20 years before retiring to Roswell, New Mexico with Catherine. His magnum opus was a 4-volume history of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. Frank is preceded in death by his wife, Catherine, and his youngest son, Peter H.A. King, who was a translator in Brussels, Belgium. He is survived by two sons, Roger J.H. King of Orono, Maine, and David J.S. King of Oxford, Mississippi, as well as two sets of grandchildren: Vincent and Esther from Brussels, Belguim, and Angela and Tony from Oxford, Mississippi. He is also survived by three daughters-in-law: Laurie Hicks of Maine, Chiarella Esposito of Mississippi, and Levke King of Brussels. Frank King's ashes will be buried in the Abilene cemetery on June 1, 2013.
