Read More	Frank Henry Kreifels, son of Frank and Catherine (Heng) Kreifels, was born November 14, 1894 on a farm near Paul Nebraska. He attended St. Joseph's School. He would often reminisce of the house parties, barn dances and the Halloween pranks that were part of his growing up days. He farmed with his father until he married. On May 10, 1916, he and Florence B. Harris, daughter of Robert and Mary Harris of Julian Nebraska were married in St. Peter's Catholic Church in Omaha, Nebraska. To this union nine children were born, two daughters and seven sons. They set up housekeeping in a tent to be near the farm, and spent the first winter in Nebraska City. March 1917 they started farming for themselves on the Catron farm near Paul. Om 1921, he moved his family on a 320 acre farm they had purchased five miles south and one east of Unadilla, where he lived the rest of his life. Corn, wheat, and oats were the main crops. Hay was put loose in the big red barn. From the straw stack, straw was brought in for bedding the farm animals. The shelves in the cellar were lined with jars of canned goods from the gardne, and the potato bin was always full. The cellar was also used for shelter during a severe storm. In the fall, making cider from the apple orchard was a family project. The ice house was filled each winter with ice from a near-by pond. The entire family looked forward to Saturday night, when they took cream and eggs to town to be sold for buying groceries. It was a fun time for everyone to meet neighbors and friends. Every other day, eight loaves of bread, plus coffee cake were baked in the wood stove. The children would hurry home from school for a fresh warm snack. It was a great day in the 30's when the kerosene lamps were replaced by Rural Electrification (REA). They lost the west 160 acres of land during the depression. Later they bought 80 acres east of Burr. Even so, Frank was a kind and generous man. He was always ready to lend to a helping hand. A friend out of work always found a place at the table and bed in their home. Many bushels of grain for seeding were given to those less fortunate. They were members of St. Paulinius Catholic Church in Syracuse. One of his dreams was to visit his cousin, Carl Kreifels, in California. After a lingering illness, Frank passed away January 25, 1942, before his dream came true. At the time of his death there were eight children at home, the youngest being four years old. Florence remained on the farm, each of the boys doing the farming until they married and moved on. Two of the sons served in the Armed Forces. During this time, she remodeled the farm home, sold the 80 acres and bought 160 acres north of Burr. The spring of 1952, she sold the home place, and with the three youngest sons, moved to Syracuse. In 1966, she attaended her 50 year High School reunion in Nebraska City. She was a member of St. Paulinius Alter Society for 62 years. When her health began to fail in 1982, she sold her home in Syracuse, and moved to Westview Manor in Syracuse. She loved to travel and was very alert and enjoyed life up until the time of her death, September 9, 1963. She was survived by seven children, 36 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren.
