Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Apfel Funeral Home in Cairo. the Rev. Cliff Reynolds will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Cairo with Masonic and military rites at graveside. Visitation was to be Sunday from 5 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Cairo United Methodist Church. Mr. Murie was born March 27, 1895 at St. Edward, the son of James and Mary Lohoff Murie. when he was a child they moved to Grand Island and later to Cairo until he entered the U.S.Army in 1917. He served in Siberia. HE received his discharge in 1919. On Nov. 21, 1917, he married Reva Scoins at Grand Island. After he returned from the service they lived in Cairo where he worked for the Cairo Mercantile Co. for 17 years. In 1936 he opened Pete's Grocery, which he operated until his retirement in 1966. Mr. Murie was a member of the Cairo United Methodist Church, the Cairo Masonic Lodge and American Legion. Survivors include his widow. He was preceded in death by four sisters and a son, Frank E. 14 October 1980 Grand Island Daily Independent Services for Pete J. Murie were Monday at Apfel Funeral Home in Cairo. The Rev. Cliff Reynolds officiated. burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Cairo. Pallbearers were Delbert Rounds, Bert Olsen, Bob Larson, Ed Schlund, James Sheeks and Gordon Sorensen.
