Noahr. This former publisher here passed away on April 15, 1939, after making his home at Craig, Iowa, for a number of years. Mr. Noahr was born at Batiba, IL, January 24, 1869. There he spent his early years and in 1888 immigrated to Dakota Territory, settling at Lennox. For a short time he made his home with his grandmother, Mrs. Gilmore, and was employed as apprentice in the shop of the Independent, then published by his uncle, Peter F. Haas. On April 15, 1892, he was married to Leona M. Howard, at the home of her parents north of town. This union was blest with two children, a son passing away at the age of six years. Mrs. Noahr spent several years of her earlier years in the environments of this community, and like her husband, was well-known among the early residents here. Mr. Noahr was connected with the Lennox Independent for a span of 22 years. Coming here when he was only 19 years old, he continued in the employ of his uncle until 1891, when Mr. Haas disposed of his enterprise to a group of local businessmen, Mr. Noahr being retained as editor. In 1892 he purchased the Independent and throughout the ensuing years he continued to display his abilities in that field. An active resident, Mr. Noahr likewise was commonly affiliated with the social functions of this community while making his home here. In 1910 Mr. Noahr sold his Independent enterprise to M. Travallie, and he and his wife took up their residence at Craig, IA., where for over 25 years he published the Craig Independent and was postmaster several years. He was a member of the local Modern Woodmen of America camp for more than 35 years, and an active member of the Lennox band and baseball organizations. His survivors include: Mrs. Noahr, a daughter, Mrs. C. R. Westady of Orland, California, and six grandchildren.
