Frank Oral Brees, 95, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2013, at the Iowa Veterans Home. Frank Oral Brees was born on August 20, 1918 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Sereno Morten "Pat" Brees and Lottie May (Moore). He was raised and educated in the Marshalltown school district graduating from Marshalltown High School. Frank Oral Brees, 95, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2013, at the Iowa Veterans Home. Frank Oral Brees was born on August 20, 1918 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Sereno Morten "Pat" Brees and Lottie May (Moore). He was raised and educated in the Marshalltown school district graduating from Marshalltown High School. After high school Frank worked briefly for the railroad before joining the Army on December 22, 1942. Before entering the Army, Frank was joined in marriage to Eunice Maxine Elliott of Liscomb, Iowa. They had 3 children; Nancy, Dennis and Patricia. After Frank got out of the service on January 14, 1946, he worked at Marshalltown Trowel Company for many years until retirement. Later, Frank married Marilyn (nee Elliott) on January 31, 1976 in Nashua, Iowa. Frank had a great love of music. Frank first played trombone in the MHS band in 1937; he later sang & played the trombone and bass with a variety of dance bands over the years. Among those were: "County Marshals" for the KFJB Barn Dance in 1948-50 on Saturday nights, followed by a 3-hour gig for dancing at the Colosseum afterward. "The Dudes" VFW Band during the summer. "Midwestern Ranch Boys" in the early '50s. "Frank Brees and the Starlighters", Frank's own band in the '60s, at Forest Park, Elks, Eagles, and Knights of Columbus playing Latin, Ballroom, Big Band and Country. Frank continued to play until 2005. Left to cherish his memory is his wife: Marilyn Brees; children: Nancy Brees of Marshalltown, Iowa and Patricia Walker of North Liberty, Iowa; step-children: Rodger Lawson of Houston, Texas and LeAnn Marie Cunningham of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren: Kellie, Lee, Mallory; Sean, Jennifer; step-grandchildren Katie and Tyler and several great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Ray, Jim and Paul; one sister: Virginia; and one son: Dennis, who passed away 8 days before Frank.
