Frank was born on August 3, 1909, to Peter and Margaret (Frost) Holbach. His parents were among Minot's earliest residents, having settled on a 240-acre farm five miles southeast of Minot, where they lived in a two-story log house. He married Ruth Jones, on June 12, 1934 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Berthold. Frank and Ruth lived and farmed the family homestead together for 67 years until Ruth died on March 2, 2001. He continued to live on the farm, which had been in the family 100 years, until moving into Somerset earlier this year. Frank was a lifetime member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot and was very active in the church, serving as a trustee, parish council member, Eucharistic minister, treasurer of the Friends of St. Leo's, a member of the Holy Name Society and was a charter member of the Minot Serra Club. Frank was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1150 since 1966, bowling in many statewide Knights of Columbus Tournaments. He also bowled on several bowling leagues in Minot and organized impromptu family tournaments. Ruth and Frank were the Knights of Columbus Council 1150 family of the year for 1988-1989. Frank and his wife Ruth were lifetime supporters of Minot Catholic education, serving on the PTO's of both St. Leo's and Bishop Ryan High School. He was a member of the Bishop Ryan Activities Association and could always be found cheering on the Ryan Lions at Basketball games. He was an active member of numerous organizations such as Farm Bureau, Ward County Milk Producers, the Minot Planning Commission, the Ward County Water Resource Board, and the Ward County Republican Party. He was one of the founders of Minot Livestock Auction. Frank was a member of the Ward County Old Settlers and was treasurer of that organization since 1988. Frank spent many years helping 4-H youngsters with livestock projects. Frank also spent a number of years as a member of the Greater Minot Kiwanis Club. A lifetime resident of Nedrose township, Frank attended Nedrose School, served on the Nedrose school PTA and school board, he also served as clerk of the Nedrose Township board for over 40 years. He served as township supervisor and as a member of the federal, state and local election boards. Frank enjoyed gardening with a particular passion for flowers. He enjoyed woodworking-his specialties were oak baby cradles, rocking horses and puzzle games for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His funeral will be Thursday, August 7, 2003 at 10 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. Rosary and Vigil Prayer Service on Wednesday, August 6, at 7 pm at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, then starting at 6 p.m. at the church. The family suggests memorials to the Ruth and Frank Holbach Family Scholarship Fund at St. Leo's School or to a charity of the donor's choice.
