At 8:30 guests began arriving at St. Marys Catholic Cathedral at Ninth Avenue, a goodly number finding seats in its spacious auditorium, and promptly at 9 the wedding party consisting of Frank Roach, the groom, of Norfolk, Neb., escorting Miss Mamie Keefe, attended by the groomsman, Mr. John Purcell, entered the church and marched up the center aisle to the strains of the wedding march, Light and Happy, rendered by the Hoffman Harp Orchestra. Taking a pew in front of the chancel they kneeled in silent devotion for a few minutes, till Rev. E. J. McLaughlin, the officiating clergyman, in wedding stole advanced from the sachristy to the front of the altar, meeting the candidates and their attendants at the gate of the chancel, speaking fitting words to the young couple, before the commencement of mass, and previous to their being admitted to the desk within the chancel rail. The beautiful high mass by Dielman was sung, Prof. Rehwoldt presiding at the organ. During the mass Miss Anna ONeil sang, impressively and sweetly, offertory, Ava Maria, by Berge, and many were the looks of commendation and the words of compliment were received. After the long and beautiful mass, the closing strains of Light and Happy march, the wedding party passed from the church, the happy bride leaning on the arm of the groom, much envied by many of her young lady friends, as many were the admiring eyes cast on Frank who seemed to be so contented that he saw them not, yet a roughish twinkle came from his sparkling eyes occasionally. The bride was attired in a handsome traveling dress of dark heliotrope, trimmed with plush, with hat to match, making a lovely suit. The brides maids wore a walking suit of duller hue, very neat and modest. The groom and best man were in dress suits, with silk hats. So anxious were the many friends to congratulate, that the wedding party were stopped near the gates of the church yards, and for a half an hour or more there was handshaking, introductions, pleasant speeches, and the fact that kissing was quite generous, Frank getting more than the law allows, but then we all like him, as well as the bride, and it was the last time the ladies could compliment him in such a manner. The bride comes of one of the best known and highly respected families of the city, which resides on Ninth Avenue, under the shadow of St. Marys. She was born and raised in this city and possessing a modest bearing, gentle ways, coupled with a bright mind and thorough education, she comes from the city to her new duties and home at Norfolk, Nebraska, with the benediction of hundreds of loving friends here. The grooms seems like a loving relatives to many of us. He too spent childhood and youth in the city, and is the idoled son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Roach of Sixth Avenue, one of Clintons retired capitalists and real estate owners. Frank passed through the public schools graduating with much honor, graduating with distinction. Being a skilled penman, accountant stenographer and typewriter he became private secretary of Supt. S. J. Mills, of this division, a valued man, being capable of giving orders during his chiefs absence. When Mr. Mills was transferred to Boone, Master Mechanic Quayle secured Frank as his assistant, and he soon adopted himself to his new duties so that he ran the office for days at a time during Mr. Quayles absence, being careful, just and accurate, so the engineers, firemen and others in that department learned to respect him very highly. His new duties had increased his proficiency so much, that Supt. E. C. Harris, of the east division, F. E. & M. V. with headquarters at Norfolk, Neb. offered him a large salary. Though loth to him go, Mr. Quayle thought it was another step up for Frank, and consented, for that for some months past he has been in his new home, where he takes his bride. After a sumptuous breakfast at the brides home following the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Roach took the noon train for Chicago, then to Minneapolis, Sioux City and Norfolk. If the AGE well wishes are worthy enough it extends them to Mr. and Mrs. Roach, with the many others they have received, and hopes their life may be as bright as the day of their wedding.
