West, 65, widely known in south-eastern Montana, died at his home in Broadus following a long period of illness, according to information brought to the city from the Powder River county seat. When Custer county was divided and Powder River county was established, he was appointed to the position of clerk and recorder. He was elected to serve two terms following his appointment.
