Watts The life of Frank Vest Watts, gentleman, began 53 years ago the 8th day of last March, when he was born in the farm home of his parents, Roderick and Catherine Davis Watts, in Marshall Township, Highland County, Ohio, the fifth child and the third son of their family; and it closed at his own farm home a few miles east of Hillsboro, Saturday morning, November 13, 1926. That life is an open book. It lies before us and the world as pure as a newly turned page. Born on a farm, reared there, educated in a rural school, trained in a Christian home, devout as a life-long member of the Marshall Methodist Church, influential as a citizen, successful as a business man, beloved as a brother, husband and father - these things the book shows. As a youth his lines were cast to pleasant places. There were eleven children in the family and among them, it there was a favorite, it was Frank. He shared with his brothers and sisters their joys, their successes and their sorrow, and today there are tears and a deep sorrow at the passing of the loving brother, who had been so near and dear to them always. On his birthday in 1921, he was married to Mary Alice Lyle, and to them were born three children - Bertha, Eleanor and Robert. There is a crushing sadness in their hearts today as the little ones and their mothers grieve for the father who has gone, never to return to the earthly home that he loved so well and to those who were his pride and joy. There was nothing spectacular about the life of Frank Watts, but merit marked every phase of it. The circle that knew and loved him was not large, but the circle has been enriched by his life and his character, and his influence and memory will remain sacred to those who shared his friendship and his love. He accepted as the standard of his life, the challenge sent down the centuries by the prophet Micah, of old: "What doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with thy God." He was genial and jovial, inheriting from his father's people a rare sense of humor that is characteristic of the family. As a young man his presence enlivened every gathering; as the years passed he lived and laughed, working the while joyously, and even in his last days, weakened and distressed by illness, his spirit remained bouyant and cheerful. His disposition was a happy combination of the sunny and the serious. He sensed both laughter and sobriety in his life. He loved life and merriment, but he tasted sorrow and was acquainted with grief. As an inheritance from a very remarkable and a very devoted mother he received a deep reverence for the family circle and the sancity of the home. There was an intense loyalty in the makeup of Frank Watts - a loyalty that made his life unusually positive. There was nothing negativeabout him. One always knew where he stood and that stand was unwavering for the right, the just, the safe and the sane things. As here, among the wondrous, age-old hills of Highland County when the spirit of Spring was dominant, Frank Watts, loved of the pure and beautiful, began his life. It seems fitting that after a half century and more of useful living, now in the glorious Autumn and amid the same scenes, he should pass with the falling leaves, his life as rich and as radiant, yet as brief and as beautiful as theirs.
