| Description | : | Graduated at age 19 from Iowa State College with a degree in civil engineering and soon joined the office of chief engineer in New York City for the New York Central Railway. He later joined firms that speciialized in the construction of reinforced concrete structure. After what was believed to be a bout with pneumonia, he was admitted on Oct. 4, 1908, to the Agnes Memorial Sanitarium, an institution that had just opened in Denver, Colo., for the treatment of tuberculosis patients.
