Description	:	Frank W. Davis, Jr., Ph.D. – age 82, of Knoxville, passed away at his home on Monday, May 31, 2021. Frank was born in Hampton, Iowa January 16, 1939. Davis, Jr., Ph.D. – age 82, of Knoxville, passed away at his home on Monday, May 31, 2021. Frank was born in Hampton, Iowa January 16, 1939. He was a life-long learner and loved to share what he had learned. He received a BS In Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech University in 1961; an MBA in Finance, Accounting, Operations Research from Brigham Young University in 1967 and a PhD in Transportation and Logistics from Michigan State University in 1971. He was Professor of Marketing, Logistics and Transportation for over 33 years in the College of Business Administration at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee. He had many years of experience in industry, teaching and research. He received numerous awards as a scholar and was particularly interested in the use of information management concepts to support supply chain management. He was an Alma and Hal Reagan Scholar, recipient of the CSX Research Award and worked with the White House, National Governor's Association and the insurance industry in the resolution of insurance issues facing Human Service transportation programs. Other awards for outstanding research were received from the Urban Mass Transportation Administration as well as from the University of Tennessee National Alumni Association. Among his research projects were the development of strategies in Military Logistics, Associate Director of the Transportation Research Center at UTK, and Service on the Knoxville Transit Authority. He was project director for funded research including the first shared ride taxi study, the first public ridesharing project and other projects in these areas. His later research focused on information management. He helped develop the Information Management program and curriculum at both the MBA and undergraduate levels at UTK. One of his most unusual applications of information management was the development of a species survival system for the Asian Lions maintained by the Knoxville Zoo. In 1991, he and Karl Manrodt received the Plowman award for the outstanding paper of the year Teaching Service Response Logistics. His book, written with Manrodt, Customer Responsive Management: The Flexible Advantage was published in 1996 and reprinted in 1999. Professor Davis retired in 2005. Frank was an active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served willingly in many assigned positions in the East Tennessee and Knoxville Area. His love of the gospel was a major source of joy and strength throughout his life. He and his second wife, Dolly Caywood Davis, served several missions for the church including a Church Educations Service mission in New York, New York, 2006-2008. Frank was a loving son, husband and father. He and his first wife, Marley Hoover Davis, who passed away after a long illness, have six children. There are often humorous family stories about the many ways he taught his children practical lessons of life as well as provided a strong spiritual foundation. He was the proud grandfather of 19 grandchildren whom he loved spending time with. Known as Papa Frank, he was always eager to join and support them in any activity in which they were interested. He loved to travel. He and Dolly made trips to China, Peru, Chile, Canada, and many parts of the US. Friends and family spoke fondly of his love of service and kindness to others. He was a Good Man and will be missed greatly. Frank was preceded in death by his first wife, Marley Hoover Davis; parents, Sarah and Frank Davis; brother, Emmet Davis; sister, Ellen Meachem. He is survived by his wife Dolly C. Davis; sons, Nephi Davis, Michael Davis and wife Angie, Adam Davis and wife Stephanie, Joshua Davis and wife Michelle; daughters, Ellen Reddick and husband Barry, Bonny Roberts and husband David; stepsons, Larry Hough, Grady Hough and wife Nancy; grandchildren, Kate Davis, Anne Davis, Susan Davis, John Davis, Jaime Roberts, Owen Roberts, Elizabeth Reddick, Natalie Reddick, Nicholas Davis, Benjamin Davis, Henry Davis, Hannah Davis, Sidney Scarlett, Matthew Hough, Maria Hough, Macie Hough, Sophia Hough, Lily Hough, Camille Rothwell; brothers, William Davis and Larry Davis. The funeral service will be tonight, June 3 at 7:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 11837 Grigsby Chapel Rd, Knoxville, TN 37934 with Bishop Jason Bohne officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:30 – 6:30 pm.
