Dutton ____________________________ Well Known Citizen Is Laid to Rest In Sterling Cemetery ____________________________________________________ Death has taken aother of Sterling's older citizens, F. W. Dutton, who passed away at his home here shortly after midnight last Wednesday morning, Jan. 21, 1953. His age was 89 years, 7 months and 18 days. Frank Woolford Dutton, son of Martin and Susan Dutton, was born June 3, 1863 at Somerset, Kentucky. That was during the time of the Civil war, and early in the morning, on the day he was born, General Woolford was a guest in the Dutton home. In honor of his visit, the Dutton's gave their new little son the middle name of Woolford. The early years of Mr. Dutton's life were spent in Kentucky and Missouri, then in 1880 he came to Sterling, Nebr. He was united in marriage to Lena Smidt on March 13, 1890, the ceremony taking place at Lincoln, Nebr. Farming was Mr. Dutton' life work and most of their married life was spent on their farm south of Sterling, until recent years when they retired from the farm to reside in Lincoln and in Sterling. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Dutton. Two sons died in infancy, but the four children who survive him are George F. and Frank Jr., of Lincoln. Ida (Mrs. Frank Riddle) of Lincoln and Edith (Mrs. Arnold Raschke) of Omaha. In early life Mr. Dutton united in membership with the Christian church, later he united with the Bethel Methodist church which was located near their farm. When the Bethel church no longer had services the family membership was changed to the Sterling Methodist church where he attended for several years as long as health permitted. As he reached the later years of his life Mr. Dutton's health began to fail, but mentally he remained very alert until the very last. He was seriously ill only a few days. He was a kind and considerate husband and father, a man with many friends. Beides his wife and children, he leaves six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon in the Sterling Methodist church. It was a large funeral, and floral offerings spoke eloquently of the high esteem in which the departed was held. Rev. E. B. Stewart, local minister was in charge. Mrs. Lloyd Wilson and daughter Faye sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and " Rock of Ages." Burial was in the Sterling cemetery and pallbrearers were John Vermeer, Gus Warnke, Ed Heideman, Ray Lee and Hubert Truscott.
