Served in Co. B, 34th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry (OVI), with the Union Army during the Civil War from 2 Sep 1861 to 16 Dec 1861, until discharged on a "Surgeons Certificate of Disability", due to a non battle related injury. He was issued a Certificate of Naturalization 15 Aug 1863 in the same court and was identified as Francis Rheinschmidt, native of Baden, Germany. There are many different spellings of the Reinschmidt family surname on various records. Frank and most of his family later changed it to Reinsmith. The current spelling in Germany as of 2015 is Reinschmidt. Frank died from complications of his wartime injury. Frank's obit, listed in the Bee and Times Newspaper, Ripley, Ohio, dated Sep. 10, 1884, states that he was buried in the Maplewood Cemetery, Ripley, Ohio. He is also listed in books located in the Ripley Library pertaining to Brown County Civil War soldiers, which state that he is buried in Maplewood.
