Description	:	Frankie Iris Benda was born north of Holiday Lake, Poweshiek County, Iowa, on January 1, 1919, the daughter of Ira Roudabush and Ina Beck Roudabush. She moved to Michigan when very young with her parents and returned in the 1930’s and graduated from Belle Plaine, Iowa, high school. She then returned to Michigan with her parents to live again. Read More	Frankie Iris Benda was born north of Holiday Lake, Poweshiek County, Iowa, on January 1, 1919, the daughter of Ira Roudabush and Ina Beck Roudabush. She moved to Michigan when very young with her parents and returned in the 1930’s and graduated from Belle Plaine, Iowa, high school. She then returned to Michigan with her parents to live again. She returned to attend Coe College and then taught school in Chelsea and Toledo, Iowa. During WW II she was trained by the US as a physical therapist and took care of wounded soldiers for the US Army in a civilian capacity. On October 12, 1946, Frankie married Arnold Benda at Chelsea, Iowa and since has always lived at Brooklyn, Iowa. Frankie taught in the BGM School system for several years. Frankie had been ill for twenty-eight years, fighting a battle with cancer. Frankie was preceded death by her parents and one brother Emerson. Surviving are her husband, Arnold; two daughters, Penny Crockett of San Francisco, CA and Dr. Jo Benda of Iowa City, IA; a son, Jon Benda of New York City; two grandchildren, Curran and Cloe Crockett of San Francisco; and two sisters, Dorothy of Flint, Michigan and Lelah of Charlotte, North Carolina. Her husband was postmaster at Brooklyn for many years. Frankie was very interested in education and politics and other programs. A Funeral Mass was held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brooklyn at 10:30 AM, Monday, December 15, 1980. The Celebrant was Rev. Karl Holtkamp. Interment was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery at Chelsea Iowa. A Rosary was recited Sunday, December 14, 1980, at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home in Brooklyn. Source: Nevenhoven Funeral Home records
