Description	:	Veteran of World War II Franklin Charles Tunks was born a twin with Frederick, on January 12, 1924 on a farm at Geddes, SD to Arthur and Kathryn (Blake) Tunks. He attended grade school at Bovee, SD and later Geddes High School. Franklin helped on the family farm until he enlisted in the U.S. Army on November 28, 1945 during WWII. He attended grade school at Bovee, SD and later Geddes High School. Franklin helped on the family farm until he enlisted in the U.S. Army on November 28, 1945 during WWII. On December 20, 1946, he was honorably discharged and returned to Geddes, SD and worked as a carpenter then as a truck driver. Later, he worked in Platte at a gas station and at the theater. From 1963 until 1969, Franklin worked for Lindekogel Construction during the building of Interstate 90 and other roads. In 1966, Franklin moved to Chamberlain and on August 27, 1966 was united in marriage to Helen Ellwanger. He worked at the Truck Arena in Chamberlain for about 13 years. After the death of his wife, Helen, Franklin’s sister-in-law Doris Ellwanger was instrumental in helping him with his daily affairs. In October of 2006, Franklin moved to Sioux Falls to receive care and then entered the Golden Living Covington Heights Nursing Home in Sioux Falls, SD. Franklin passed away on January 21, 2007 at the Golden Living Covington Heights Nursing Home in Sioux Falls at the age of 83 years.
