Hewitt, son of John and Marion Hewitt, was born on a farm south of Victor, Iowa, May 7, 1878, and died at his home in Des Moines May 18, 1961 at the age of 83 years and 11 days. He received his education in the Victor public school, graduating with the class of 1897. He was united in marriage to Anna Tubbs of Chicago and to this union four children were born. In April, 1938, he married Virginia Steffa of Marengo, and one daughter, Beverly was born to them. During the past 20 years, they made their home in Des Moines. Mr. Hewitt was a railroad dispatcher for over 50 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason for several years. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, three daughters, Margaret of Stockton, CA., Marion of Cheyenne, WY., and Beverly at home; one son, Johnnie of Cheyenne; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. His parents and one daughter preceded him in death. Funeral services were held from the McAninch chapel Monday, may 22 at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Fred Schmidt, pastor of the Baptist Church officiating. Mrs. George Keller played two organ solos, "Face to Face" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Pallbearers were Hollis Fish, Hoyt Fish, Virgil Fish, Lester Kempf, Robert Rinehart, and William Nowotny. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
