Description	:	Dr. Franklin Eugene May, Sr., of Gainesville died Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Alachua General Hospital. He was 72. Born in Gainesville, he was the youngest of four sons of Fred F. May and Katie St. Clair McDonald May. After serving two years in the U.S. Navy, Dr. May entered Mercer University, graduating with a B.S. in Pharmacy. He then worked in retail pharmacy before entering the University of Florida where he graduated with an M.S. in Pharmacy. Read More	Dr. Franklin Eugene May, Sr., of Gainesville died Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Alachua General Hospital. He was 72. Born in Gainesville, he was the youngest of four sons of Fred F. May and Katie St. Clair McDonald May. After serving two years in the U.S. Navy, Dr. May entered Mercer University, graduating with a B.S. in Pharmacy. He then worked in retail pharmacy before entering the University of Florida where he graduated with an M.S. in Pharmacy. After working as a Research Assistant for the Department of Medicine, he again entered graduate school at the University of Florida where he received his Ph.D. degree in Clinical Pharmacy. Over the next several years, Dr. May was the Director of the Sunland Center Pharmacy and then Director of Operations of Community Medical Services in Gainesville. He also published numerous research articles while working in the Department of Medicine and later in the Department of Pharmacy Practice, College of Pharmacy, at the University of Florida. Later, he opened and ran a private consulting firm for geriatric care facilities. In 1994 he became Senior Pharmacist for the State of Florida Agency for Health Care Administration where he was working at the time of his death. He was always a strong advocate for excellence in health care, especially in the area of geriatrics. Dr. May is survived by his wife, Cherry F. May, his son, Franklin E. May, Jr., and his daughter Alison A. May Stuart. He is also survived by his brother John W. May, Sr. of Dowling Park. Published in Gainesville Sun from June 2 to June 3, 2008
