Beside the body was the veteran sportsman's gun – its stock smashed. Over 40 wearied posse men who left on the search at 5 o'clock yesterday morning, returned to their homes in Chico, Oroville and Paradise and the crew of mine workers headed by Silva, returned to their work after finding the body. Signal Shots Fired – Dr. E.L. Meyers, who was among the searchers in Coon Hollow, heard Frank Warner, one of the mine workers, fire the three shots signal denoting that the search had ended, and notified other members of the posse by a similar signal. Dr. Meyers examined the crushed body and substantiated West's opinion that Cade met instant death. The body was carried on a stretcher for over a mile before being placed in a truck and taken to the Chaparral House seven miles away from where it was removed to Chico in the Westfall ambulance. The searching party, after advancing the theory that Cade may have been struck by a falling tree, looked beneath hundreds of trees throughout the day. Parted Saturday – Cade and Melvin Deter, his companion on the hunting trip, parted at 5 o'clock Saturday morning and agreed to meet at 9 o'clock. Belief was expressed that Cade was killed between 9 and 10 o'clock that morning. When Deter failed to find Cade, he telephone H.H. Goodman Saturday evening at Butte City, and Goodman in turn notified Chico constables. The emergency mobilization call of Chico Post No. 17 American Legion was sounded Sunday night at 10:15 o'clock and at 5 o'clock yesterday morning local legionnaires left on the search led by Constable W.G. King. At Paradise they were joined by Constable Jay Brown and other searchers, including Legion men, and a group of six sent from Oroville by Sheriff Alvin Kister. The nine Carr Mine workers completed the posse. Mrs. Cade was at the ranch of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Ella Goodman at Butte City, when her husband was found. Mr. Cade was born in Illinois and had been a resident of Chico for the last 25 years. He was a member of Chico Lodge F.&A.M. 111 He leaves the widow, Mrs. Ivy Cade, and the following children: Mrs. Vera White, Fellows; Virgil B. Cade, Greenville; two sisters, Mrs. Ella Goodman, Butte City and Mrs. Laura Karr, Seymour, Ill. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Westfall Funeral Home. ~~~ 65-year-old Frank Cade was interred, per the Chico Cemetery Association Records, in the plot noted, on September 30, 1936.
